BARP Certified Taxi Service
Description
BARP members uncomfortable with driving at night and missing social activities now have a safe, reliable, and affordable option called the BARP Certified Taxi Service.
President Marilyn Rice-Bowen made the announcement last October 25th at the end of the Association’s Freedom Bus Ride at the National Botanical Gardens which was to celebrate their 29th anniversary.
Rice-Bowen lamented then that many BARP members were stuck at home, able to drive and with a valid license but blinded by bright headlights which prevented them from properly navigating the roadways.
“This is a situation BARP is seeking to remedy through consultation with government, but in the meantime, we have partnered with Lyndhurst to offer BARP members a pick-up and drop off service at reasonable rates between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. Members must present a valid BARP card in order to use the service,” she noted.
The president further explained, “This will help our more senior members to get out and about to public and family functions, especially now it is coming up to Independence and Christmas. Even though they won’t be driving, this still gives them a sense of autonomy. I want to stress though that this is not a free service, there is a cost attached, a reasonable one I might add.”
The Taxi Service was launched on November 20, 2024 at the BARP headquarters, Mervue House, Marine Gardens, Hastings, Christ Church.
Discount: 10% off of the price of the trip between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on presentation of a valid BARP membership card.
